Mark Holman-Smith

Mark joined Arnhem Company IJLB Shornecliffe during 1979 and went on to serve with 2 Para.

As a radio operator aged just 19, Mark was killed on 28th May 1982 during the Falklands War as 2 Para fought and won the Battle for Goose Green. He is buried in Falklands

Mark was a loyal friend and comrade and a totally professional soldier to the end.

He could carry enormous weight for his size, which came in handy for being a Para and a radio operator.

An example of Mark's potential leadership qualities; his first balloon jump to get his Para wings he became hung up beneath the basket of the balloon. After calling for assistance he was hauled back into the balloon. The Jump instructor enquired if he was ok, shouted go! and Mark leapt out once again. I followed in his slipstream.

It was this sort of courage that led to his death, breaking from cover to help an injured friend.

Much missed friend and airborne brother.
