Former Second in Command IJLB Oswestry 1963-1965 - Major Weller died on April 4th 2007 aged 88. From his Regimental magazine: HEROIC Sam Weller fought for his country in two wars and even survived a PoW camp ? then died because he was admitted to a bug-ridden British hospital. Retired major Sam was decorated for his outstanding career fighting in the Far East during World War Two and then in Korea in the 1950s ? where he was taken prisoner. He was even awarded the MBE for gallantry with one regimental historian writing: “Weller was a fearless and resolute officer. “He was repeatedly in solitary confinement, accused of inciting the prisoners to subvert the camp authority.
