Smoking

Now that this subject is a political hot potato, I wonder if many juniors were introduced to the weed as I was.

In a previous reply to a post, I recalled that as our co. was forming up ready to take our turn on the wingate square for a drill and turnout completions, it became obvious that some lads were gasping for a fag as the nerves were getting the better of them. A call went round as to who had any money on them.......I foolishly said I had, and produced 3/-6d to someone whose details I can't remember who disappeared to return shortly with a packet of no6 .....he generously offered me one and that was that, hooked on the damn things for the next 22 yrs....I remember I was given a couple of packets of no6 from a female friend, only to give them to 428 Jones WG. because I didn't want my father to know I smoked....my first posting with my bn. after passing out was to Londonderry ......during which we attended a concert, which include a very blue Bob Monkhouse, a trio of scots lasses called the Carlins, and several young ladies giving out free packets of cigarettes ( yes no6 ) to all the troops.
How times have changed eh...
